What is the Healthier SG Chronic Tier, and who is eligible?

To ensure affordability of common chronic medications at GP clinics and polyclinics, the Healthier SG Chronic Tier takes effect from February 2024. Under this subsidy framework, selected common chronic medications are offered to residents enrolled at Healthier SG GP clinics at subsidised rates comparable to polyclinics. The subsidies apply for treatment of chronic conditions only at the enrolled clinic.

The Healthier SG Chronic Tier will benefit CHAS/PG/MG cardholders with higher medication needs and whose bills may exceed the current CHAS annual subsidy limits.

Under the Healthier SG subsidy framework, all Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS), Pioneer Generation (PG) and Merdeka Generation (MG) cardholders are eligible for Healthier SG Chronic Tier subsidies for medications on the Healthier SG Medication List at their enrolled clinic.

What are the selected chronic medications that are eligible for subsidies under Healthier SG Chronic Tier?

Commonly used medications for managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol will be subsidised under Healthier SG Chronic Tier and will be available from February 2024. Prices for these medications at the GPs will be more comparable with the polyclinics.

You may find the list of selected chronic medications that are eligible for the percentage-based subsidies under Healthier SG Chronic Tier here.

What is the difference between CHAS and Healthier SG Chronic Tier subsidies?

Patients who are more likely to benefit from the new Healthier SG Chronic Tier are those with chronic conditions with higher medication needs and bills which exceed the current CHAS annual subsidy limits. Hence, patients are encouraged to consult their family doctors if they are suitable to switch to the selected chronic medications that are eligible for percentage subsidies under the Healthier SG Chronic Tier.

To cater for possible changes to their medical needs, patients will be allowed to switch between the original CHAS Chronic Tier and the new Healthier SG Chronic Tier. Should there be a switch between subsidy frameworks, the annual dollar subsidy balance will be pro-rated accordingly.

PG and MG seniors are nonetheless encouraged to sign up for the CHAS card as MOH continues to review enrolment benefits under Healthier SG.
